Italian entrepreneur Nerio Alessandri designed his first piece of fitness equipment in his garage in 1983. Today, he’s head of Technogym, a manufacturer of high-end treadmills, exercise bikes and cardio machines that employs over 2,000 people and exports 90 per cent of its products. Clients include gyms in luxury hotels and spas, leading fitness centers and professional athletes and Olympians. With an emphasis on design, Alessandri has developed a line of equipment for the home and the company recently inaugurated a new headquarters, Technogym Village, a 150,000 sqm complex conceived by architect Antonio Citterio that incorporates its head office, assembly line, company gym, conference center and cafeteria under one roof.
