This project unfolds from a commissioned journey to Uzbekistan by Uzbekistan Art & Culture Development Foundation, presenting a series of portraits of Uzbek craftsmen. The visual journey, accompanied by short notes titled A Quiet Confrontation, was published in a new limited edition of Dixit Algorizmi – The Garden of Knowledge catalogue. As the scope of the work was quite specific, it was possible to quickly immerse into the milieu of individuals responsible for creating important cultural artefacts with their hands. A different approach emerged by focusing on details rather than attempting to capture a broad, superficial view of the place. This process also marked a return to portrait photography — a genre that demands an intense level of concentration, rarely attainable in other forms of photographic practice.
